How to Draw an Owl

In this drawing instruction, you will learn how to draw an owl easily for artists of any level of sketching skills. Owls are a large group of birds of prey with an unusual lifestyle when compared to other species of birds. Most owls are nocturnal, for which they are called nocturnal birds of prey. And their unusualness is due to the fact that eagles, hawks, and other birds of prey are engaged in hunting mainly in the daytime. Owls are very different sizes depending on the species. The length of a small owl reaches a maximum of 20 centimeters, and the length of a large owl can reach 70 centimeters. The owls have big heads that because of feathers seem round, and the face of owls because of the feathers looks flat.
We hope that this step-by-step guide will help you to sketch the owl quickly and without much difficulty. Enjoy your sketching process!

How to Draw an Owl
- Outline of the head.
Sketch the circular shape of the owl’s head using the first step as an example.
- Draw the ears.
Sketch the pointed to large owl ears, as in showing the example.
- Face shape and beak.
Sketch round outlines on the owl’s face. After that, sketch out the owl’s pointed beak.
- Draw the eyes.
Now we need to draw the eyes of the owl. Draw a full circle on the right, and draw a semicircle for one eye on the left.
- Draw the pupils of the eyes.
Now depict two solid circles for the owl pupils.
- Body shape.
So, now we move on to drawing the body of the owl. First, depict a vertical line from the middle of the owl’s head, and then sketch the shape of the owls with thin pencil strokes. These will be the basic guidelines with which you will draw the body of the owl.
- Draw the lines of the body.
Now draw the owl’s body with more even, smooth lines. Then erase the body guidelines.
- Add details.
The shape of the owl’s torso is drawn, and now you need to draw the lines of the owl’s wings.
- Draw the feet of the owl.
Now draw the owl’s feet and sharp claws on his toes.
- Branch of a tree.
Let’s make the drawing more detailed by adding to the sketch the branch of the tree on which the owl is sitting. Detail the branch of the tree by drawing various leaves.
- Sketch the feathers.
Now we detail the drawing of the owl by sketching pointed feathers on its body, which are directed downward.
- The lower part of the feathers.
In the same way, draw owl feathers on the lower half of the body.
- Add feathers to the wings.
Now detail the owl’s wings by drawing feathers on the wings in the same way as you drew feathers on the body.
- Trace the outlines.
Erase any extra lines from the drawing, and then trace the contours of the owl sketch using an ink pen, marker, or a thin paintbrush.
- Color the owl.
Finish drawing an owl by coloring this cute bird. You can color the owl in brown, gray, beige. Owl eyes can be colored green, yellow, or brown.
